VT generally requires Java 1.8 or higher. Particularly on Mac OSX systems, it may be necessary to upgrade your Java. Please contact the SOFIA Help Desk if you have any questions. |

Mac OS X Instructions:
Instructions
- After downloading, double-click
VT411-installer
Notes
- Supported OS versions: OS X 10.7, OS X 10.8, OS X 10.9.
- Be sure you have Java installed. You can download Java from Apple's site
- The compressed installer should be recognized by Stuffit Expander and should automatically be expanded after downloading.
If it is not expanded, you can expand it manually using StuffIt Expander 6.0 or later.
- If you have any problems launching the installer once it has been expanded, make sure that the compressed installer was expanded using Stuffit Expander.
If you continue to have problems, please contact technical support.
- If you are running
Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8) or Maverick OS X 10.9), and receive "file damaged" error during the installation, it does
not mean that the dmg file is damaged. You just need to lower the security settings temporally to install SPT. To lower the
security setting : Launch System Preferences -> Security and Privacy -> General, and select Allow applications downloaded from
Anywhere. After SPT is installed and start running, make sure you return your security settings back to normal.

Linux Instructions:

- After downloading open a shell and
cd
to the directory where you downloaded the installer.
- At the prompt type type either:
chmod a+x VTxyz-installer-linux.sh
or chmod a+x VTxyz-installer-linux64.sh
and then either ./VT411-installer-linux.sh
or ./VT411-installer-linux64.sh
Notes
- Supported OS versions: Mint, Ubuntu, Debian.
- csh or tcsh are required. To install:
sudo apt-get install csh

Generic Unix Instructions:
Instructions
- After downloading open a shell and,
cd
to the directory where you downloaded the installer.
- At the prompt type:
sh ./VT411-installer-generic.sh
Notes
- You need to install a Java virtual machine. You can download one from Sun's Java web site or contact your OS manufacturer.
